The ImageCity series is composed of five photos, including Seoul Ⅰ, , , Tokyo, and Sydney, each of which illustrates stores, license plates of moving cars, and trees on the streets of Seoul, Tokyo, and Sydney. Each work of this series is a large collage measuring 4 m by 3 m or 3 m by 4 m in which 10,000 contact prints (35 mm film) are put together. While in Tokyo, To Alice... …, and Trace, Park, HongChun accumulated time and space in one frame by employing the tactics of long exposure, in ImageCity, he accumulated time and space through numerous photographs taken regardless of aesthetic beauty. Ten thousand photos reflect the uniform code or standard of city civilization and, more generally, individuals in the city merge together in each work, conveying the massive energy of the big city. The labor-intensive nature of cutting and pasting numerous pieces of contact prints by hand not to use digital editing is another factor that contributes to revealing this overwhelming energy. Although each photo seems to have been taken for photo archives and is devoid of direct connotations affecting the city in which we live, the works stimulate viewers to look within and ruminate on it by providing them with images of the city condensed in time and space.
